Cordless Impact Wrench Buyer’s Guide
Will a Cordless Impact Wrench Remove Lug Nuts?
The ability to remove lug nuts is largely dependent on how powerful your tool actually is. But the answer is yes – you should be able to remove a lug nut using one of these tools. Most lug nuts will need to be removed with at least 100 ft-lbs of torque – the same amount as what puts it into place. This is equivalent to 1200 in-lbs should you need an inch conversion instead of feet.
Related: Best Torque Wrenches.
Most lug nuts tend to sit in their position for quite some time before being removed, which means there are several things to consider. The first is that the lug nut could become too cold and freeze. This will affect how much power it takes to get it out of its place. There’s also the chance that your lug nut could get stuck if one of the threads was broken or over-tightened the last time it was serviced.
If the lug nut is in a position that’s frequently exposed to the elements – especially water – you’ll have to take into consideration the possibility that your lug nut could rust over. This could cause major problems for you. In any of the above situations, you’re going to need a lot more torque power to get the lug nut out than it took to put it in originally.
If you work diligently with a tool that tops out at 100 ft-lbs torque, you may be able to get the nut to come undone. But if not, this is where an impact wrench proves to be extremely helpful. Some models can produce over 200 ft-lbs of torque, which should be plenty to remove the stubborn nut and allow you to get back to business.
What is a Cordless Impact Wrench Used For?
Cordless impact wrenches are used to put in and take out lug nuts, screws, bolts, and other miscellaneous parts on cars, bikes, boats, aircrafts, and anything else automotive. As a pulse-type machine, they’re commonly used by automotive workers for changing things like wheels, tires, and assembly line production teams.
Are Cordless Impact Wrenches Any Good?
Cordless impact wrenches are a great tool to use regardless, but they’re even better for people who enjoy working freely without the restriction of a cord. They’re also great for people who need tools that can travel with them throughout a workday. Cordless impact wrenches help make work easier without sacrificing any of the power that the models produce.
What’s the Best Cordless Impact Wrench?
There are a lot of great wrench designs on the market, but one of the best is the Ingersoll Rand W7150. Thanks to all the great features built into the model, the Ingersoll design allows you to get the job done quickly and efficiently. It’s powered by an impressive motor and is lightweight – perfect qualities for any worker who needs a mobile impact wrench.
